Ongoing contests

I like to list a lot of writing contests around here.  This isn’t for a specific contest with an upcoming deadline.  Rather, here is a site that has ongoing contests listed all the time.  Take a look and see what you can find to suit you.

There are some updates there, so do keep checking back from time to time.

Writer’s Digest

Let’s not forget that Writer’s Digest always has lots of contests.  There are three assignments for contests in August (one for kids), and that always means lots of fun.

Stop in at the Writer’s Digest site and have a look at the upcoming contests.  It’s always worth a shot to submit something with them.

Writer’s Journal

Writer’s Journal has loads of great writing contests.  There are categories for fiction, short stories, horror or ghost stories, romance, travel, photos, and of course, poetry.  So, for genre writers, this is a great spot to get involved.

You can visit the calendar of contests to see what is going on at the moment.

First Writer

The firstwriter.com website has lots of resources for writers.  You can find there a database of literary agents, or another database of magazines where you can seek to have your work published.

There are also lots of competitions available through the website.  You can find the general listings that are suitable for all sorts of writers, or the more targeted databases for poets or for fiction writers.

Ongoing Competitions

I’ve found a valuable resource, if you are always on the lookout for ongoing writing contests. (I am.)

There are tons of opportunities listed there, and all of the links have some ongoing contests. It’s a great way for writers to get into the game. There is stuff there for poets, fiction writers, and essayists. And, I even came across a link for drawings and other competitions in which the prize is homeschool materials. I’ve sent that link to my favorite homeschooler.
