Now THAT is a Good Idea

I just came across something that strikes me as a very brilliant idea.  It’s a website called Anthology Builder, and here’s how it works.  There is a good database (ever expanding) of stories that have appeared in quality magazines over the years.  The site purchases reprint rights to the stories.  The buyer then can choose the stories from the authors s/he loves to read, or stories s/he has seen in print before and would like to own a copy of.  The buyer chooses the particular stories desired, and they are delivered as an anthology within 30 days.  The buyer chooses the cover design, making it a tailor-made anthology.

Writers can submit their stories that have previously appeared in magazines.  The stories will be stored in the database, and the author will receive a royalty each time his or her story is chosen for inclusion in a custom-made anthology.  Most of what is available on the site now is speculative fiction, but the plan is to broaden this out, eventually including poetry too.  I am excited to hear about this site — it looks very promising!

Sloth Jockey

When I first started blogging, I ran into a number of good writers at the community-oriented site I blogged at.  One stood out from the crowd as one of the best writers I’ve encountered on a personal level.  He went by the name Son of King Pharmacist at the site where we blogged, though his real-life (if there is such a thing) name is Jason Gantenberg.

Since that time, the site has closed down and we’ve all moved on to other things.   Jason has come up with something that is very exciting.  He is one of the founders of a new online lit magazine, Sloth Jockey.  I am excited about the site, and expect to see some edgy, solid content there.
Stop by to submit, or at least read the work that will be appearing there soon.

Talk about good things happening….

After my most recent entry about good things happening, I got some GREAT news today!

I will be the featured poet in the November 2008 issue of Scifaikuest.  I just got a letter from the editor there asking if I would be willing to be the featured poet… and of course said “YESSSSS!!!!!!”
I should have about 8-10 poems appearing in the November issue of the magazine.  I’ll post a link here when it is out, if anyone is interested in purchasing it.

More good news

I received more good news yesterday, this time from The Shantytown Anomaly.  My poem “Robotics” will appear in the magazine, in issue #8.

I am looking forward to seeing my work there.  I’ve had a chance to read several issues of The Shantytown Anomaly and really like the poetry I’ve encountered there.  It’s nice to hear that they want to use one of my poems too.

A Week Later

Just a week later, and I received more good news — another poem has been accepted for publication! This one will appear in The Pink Chameleon, and online magazine, beginning in June 2008.  It will be there for one year.

The poem is entitled “Company,” so be watching for it when it comes out next year.

More Good News

Yesterday, I got news that another poem has been accepted in a small-circulation publication.  It will appear in the November issue.

Things are finally starting to go well, and I’ve had a few works published recently (or soon to come out).  The total has come to 20 poems accepted in the past 2 years — right about what I was aiming for.

I’ve put up a list of my published works at my new website (now still just a blog).  If you’d like to peep in there, you can see how things have been going.  I hope I’ll have more good news soon, and that the list will keep growing.
