Anthology Builder

I talked in a previous post about Anthology Builder. I just received my first anthology from them, even quicker than was promised. I wrote more about it on my main blog, if you'd like to read.

I have thicker skin than I thought

Wow, I have thicker skin than I realized.

About 10 days ago, I had been commenting in my journal that there were several magazines that have not yet replied to my submissions, and that the time to start hearing responses was probably at hand. Since then, I got three responses, all rejections. Funny how that works out.

Today as I was writing in my journal, I commented that it is alright — I prefer timely responses, even if the news I hear isn't what I would have preferred.

I didn't realize I'd grown so thick-skinned!

Now THAT is a Good Idea

I just came across something that strikes me as a very brilliant idea. It's a website called Anthology Builder, and here's how it works. There is a good database (ever expanding) of stories that have appeared in quality magazines over the years. The site purchases reprint rights to the stories. The buyer then can choose the stories from the authors s/he loves to read, or stories s/he has seen in print before and would like to own a copy of. The buyer chooses the particular stories desired, and they are delivered as an anthology within 30 days. The buyer chooses the cover design, making it a tailor-made anthology.

Writers can submit their stories that have previously appeared in magazines. The stories will be stored in the database, and the author will receive a royalty each time his or her story is chosen for inclusion in a custom-made anthology. Most of what is available on the site now is speculative fiction, but the plan is to broaden this out, eventually including poetry too. I am excited to hear about this site — it looks very promising!

Life is Not All Poetry

Life isn't always poetry, and even the best poets might have to use prose from time to time.

Of course, good prose is good reading, just like good poetry.

Creative Nonfiction looks for good prose. It is a fun publication to read, and many readers of this blog might be interested in submitting there too. Stop in and check out the guidelines, and then send some of your best prose for consideration.

New Poems Published

In a recent post, I talked about my friend's newly opened online lit mag, Sloth Jockey. The site is under way now, and is shaping up very nicely.

I have sent in some work that might be of interest, and you can view these poems on the site there now:

Temenos

Truth, Justice

Enmity

Spectrophotoelectric

I've also got a review of Kafka on the Shore there. There is a nice author page available at the site too, a feature that is a real plus for writers who submit and have work accepted at the site.

Two of the poems that have been published at Sloth Jockey grew out of the dictionary games I've mentioned here and there on this site. Those two are "Temenos" and "Spectrophotoelectric." I am satisfied with both of those poems, and am especially pleased to have them appear at Sloth Jockey. I think it is a good medium for both pieces.
